Prompt: Cringe+Review: Tarte Pout Prep

Hi everyone. Happy Sunday!

My lips tend to dry out quickly. Not even exfoliators could help them. Few months ago, I noticed Fresh Tinted Lip Treatments helped moisturize my lips longer. But those around $24. And if their tinted, I want more shades. But I don’t want to spend that much on a lip balm.

Exfoliators are supposed to help with prepping your lips and I heard it also helps a little with the drying out. I’ve tried so many. From Dior’s expensive Lip Sugar to the cheapest I’ve heard so far E.L.F.’s in their lipstick package. I even tried making my own.

In between those two, I tried Fresh’s Lip Polish and its new wand type. I didn’t like the wand one as much for exfoliating, but it gave a nice glossy finish to my lips. As for the original Lip Polish, it was alright giving it a second try. Back in college I never liked it. Trying a sample again,  it’s ok. I think I’m not into brown sugar for exfoliating though. And I wanted more in an exfoliator.

GlamGlow’s lip scrub was nice and felt similar to Milani’s. However, I Cringe[d] with the taste in my mouth when little pieces found its way inside (YUCK!). I couldn’t tolerate it. Plus, there was something missing in it.

Tarte’s Rainforest of the Sea Lip Scrub in a pencil/marker packaging was cool to try. But it got really messy. And it didn’t seem to be working on my lips.

Bite Beauty’s both original lip scrub and Agave. Their whipped one was interesting to try. It applied on my lips without any sugar texture- just creamy. I didn’t think it did the job and don’t understand how it’s meant to exfoliate without the granules.

Agave was better than the original. But I couldn’t stand the smell. Is that just me??? Plus, I’m not into brown sugar scrubs (mainly for its smell).

Lush’s homemade lip scrubs that are delicious! They are popular, but I’m not into the dry texture. Plus, I wanted my lips to be conditioned. They just felt dried…. But it tasted so good (especially Popcorn)!

Milani Sweet Sugar Scrub was so sweet and was like putting a really nice desert on my lips. But let’s face it, it just wasn’t for my tastebuds.

E.L.F’s $3 lip scrub in a lipstick packaging is amazing. But breaks off when I use it. And it’s also missing something. But I’d use it if I didn’t keep breaking them.

Now, I’m sure I’m missing some others I have tried. But before this gets any longer, let me introduce to you the exfoliator I have tried and found I love more than all these.

Tarte has come out with another exfoliator called Pout Prep. I tried locating YouTube videos and haven’t found much on it. It retails for $16 and only has two reviews with ratings of 4-5 stars.

I ordered mine with a 15% off discount as a first time customer on their website. I am not new to their company. I’ve been buying their products from Sephora and Ulta.

Pout Prep is a “minty lip scrub and treatment Balm with moisturizing maracuja, shea butter, and exfoliating sugar to gently buff away flakes and treat thirsty lips.”

Both maracuja and shea butter sink deeply into lips to hydrate, firm, and protect from future drying, cracking, and/or chapping.

This product has vitamins C and E, Sunflower Seed Oil, and Carnauba Wax. If you’re not into wax in lip products, this may not be for you as it does contain wax.

When reading about this product, I thought of the $33 Dior Lip Sugar.

This product is designed with concentrated granita texture that gently transforms into a balm as it melts on lips. Both products consider themselves as a balm.

Are these similar? Perhaps in how their designed to be used. But the textures are completely different. You apply Dior’s like a lip balm and the sugar immediately melts onto your lips. Pout Prep’s sugar doesn’t immediately melt away. And you can remove by rinsing it.

I find when using Pout Prep first time, the sugar did melt onto my lips creating a balm like texture. But other times I’d have to rinse it off.

What is/are your favorite exfoliators?

Poetry: Bound

Baby given up with no name;

Until someone took her in- shelter from the storm;

Once nameless, now framed with a name;

Adopted by a family, last name changed;

Growing up, a feeling she never could ignore;

Secrets kept, she never once implore;

Memories lost she couldn’t restore;

Bound lost, lonely, abandoned, hopeless, dazed, and confused;

A house that felt like no home;

A family disconnected;

Betrayed of lies;

But one remained hidden deep inside;

Within her heart, a longing she couldn’t sway;

A face once without a name, named.

Had a home.

Had a family.

Had a life beyond some.

Yet, deep within,

A child once nameless,

Could never separate her from reality;

Deep within, her heart bound by

Lost, lonely, abandoned, hopeless, dazed, and confused.

Pesky Lil Lovebugs!

Mom and I were visiting cemetery today to see Dad, Grandma, and Grandpa. It rained harder here than it did in our area. So we didn’t expect much water on the ground.

Standing there, visiting Dad first, love bugs were flying around. It wouldn’t leave me alone. One flew on my face twice. Mom said Dad told the bug to give me kisses. I’m one of those who brushes bugs away. I kind of shiver and jump a little when bugs come near me or on me. I did fine when it came near me. But on me is when I flinched.

Anyways, we said our goodbyes and Happy Easter to him then walked to our car. Apparently, those love bugs decided they weren’t done with us and decided to follow us.

After I got into the car, I noticed the bugs on my front glass crawling around. Then, I noticed them on my side glass and even on my side mirror. Mom left the door open longer to get in. One flew in from her side while others stayed on glass near her.

I didn’t see any on other cars parked. I drove off with the bugs not wanting to budge. We parked near the entrance and mom went to stop at grandma and grandpa’s graves. I was a bit Cranky about the bugs and in sandal not wanting to walk through all the water. Plus, I’m still getting over my allergies that gave me a bad cough.

While sitting there waiting, more bugs showed up. I only took one picture of the two bugs on my window side. Sometimes there would be three. There were a few on my front glass but I set off the water and wipers to make them fly away.

Mom came back and we drove off. I noticed one little bug stayed on my side of the window. Driving on the freeway, I opened my window a little, then closed it quickly hoping none invites themselves in.

Right after doing this, I saw this stubborn little bug holding onto my window for dear life with its two legs, while the rest of it was blowing away. I opened and closed my window a few more times before getting on the highway and saw it finally blew off. I wish I could have taken a picture of it holding onto my window. That bug just didn’t want to get off my window. It was funny eyeing it while driving.

After getting on highway, no more Lovebugs stayed on my car or followed it.

Happy Easter to all!

Rani Cosmetics: Lassi

This is Lassi in is thin application. I am loving this shade! And my first blog post I had said I felt the griny-ness of the shimmer. I do not feel it with this applied like this. Maybe it was the first application or the way I applied it that made more shimmer on my lips so that it would feel griny? I don’t know.

Rani Cosmetics

Hi all. One of my favorite Youtuber’s had recently launched a new makeup line. Currently, she is selling lipsticks only. She is an Indian. She named her makeup company Rani, which means queen. She believes everyone should feel like royalty and be empowered and confident when applying and wearing lipstick.

Her name is Eshani and her YouTube ID is TotalMakeupJunkie101. She loves reviewing makeup, especially lipsticks. Her very first makeup launch was Sparked Dazzling Lipstick line.

Sparked Dazzling reminds Eshani of fireworks in the night sky. These lipsticks are not matte shades. They have shimmer. They go very well with Medium to tan skin. However, she has tested these on fair and others and they all feel it is wearable. These lipsticks are cruelty and vegan free. They are made in America.

They are priced at $18, which is pricey; however, these lipsticks were not made with cheap ingredients and the shimmer in these are not cheap glitter. For the work she put into designing or lipstick, tube, and the packaging, I feel $18 isn’t too bad.

This line of lipsticks consist of six shades- nude, pink, red, orange, brown. and a deep vampy purple. They each have their own unique scent. But the scent is neither overpowering nor overwhelming.

One lipstick is called Lassi. Lassi is a vibrant, red-orange base with gold and pink shimmer. Lassi in Indian is a mango smoothie. So Lassi lipstick has a mango scent to it.

Latte is a chocolatey brown shade with a subtle violet and blue shimmer. Latte has a chai latte scent to it. I feel this is more daily wearable for me. It doesn’t show much glitter on my lips when I tried it compared to Lassi and Bindi (red shade). This did not feel too griny when pressing my lips together.

Bindi is the third lipstick I purchased out of the six shades. It is a classic medium red shade with pink and gold shimmer. Bindi has a strawberries and cream scent.

These three I purchased were sent in a beautiful purple evenlope.

The delivery didn’t take long. I ordered this on April 9th and just received it today, April 13th a day earlier than the original delivery date.

It also came with an invoice. My address is hidden by the three lipsticks packaging.

Each lipstick packaging has a nice holographic design with Rani inscribed in a pink aluminum foil. On one side is a sticker shaded in the lipstick color along with its name.

Opening up the package to reveal the lipsick tube, you will see the lipstick tube resemble NARS’ in some ways. NARS’ is more rubbery. These tubes are not rubbery and they are not black. They are white; however, she did not make it rubbery because that can get dirty on the black tube (so imagine a dirty white tube).

The other three shades are:

Tattoo, which is the nude of the bunch. It is a universal pinky-nude with pink shimmer. It has a subtle caramel cream scent.

Syrup is a fuschia-pink base with a subtle rose scent.

Last but not least, Eclipse is a dark vampy purple shade, which flatters every skin tone. It has a subtle coconut scent.

To apply, they say prep your lips by exfoliating and moisturize. In order for a sheer look, apply a thin layer. Add more for full, intense color.

If you would like to purchase all six shades, you can for $99. I just purchased three to start off.

Lassi I got because of the mango scent and wanting to see if that orange will flatter my skin tone since I hear it’s supposed to flatter all. Latte I bought for the scent chai latte and thinking it might be a good daily wear for me. Bindi I purchased thinking I wanted to try the red-orange shade.

As for the shimmer, if you’re used to matte/cream shades without shimmer, you may feel a little uncomfortable wearing the shimmer. When your lips press together you may feel them. Also, I felt the Bindi and Lassi had too much shimmer. The shades are flattering, but the shimmer can be a bit too much for those not used to it.

The only lipstick I have with shimmer is from Kat Von D. Mercy is a nice garnet shade with a hint of shimmer. When wearing that one, I tolerated it more than these. I didn’t feel the shimmer as much as I do with the Rani lipsticks. However, when using it a lot, eventually, the lipstick in the bullet when applied felt griny. I am not sure if Rani lipsticks will do the same.

I feel like Rani’s is not as drying as Kat Von D’s, which is good if you’re the type who dislikes drying formulas or just need the moisturization.

As for the shades, I will definitely wear Latte. However, the other shades, I want to try adding a thin layer for a subtle sheer look. Otherwise, it will be out of my comfort zone. I feel Lassi and Bindi are more for parties when in full intensity. I am unsure of its sheerness.

Would I purchase more? I have my mind set on purchasing the only nude shade Tattoo. However, I will not splurge right away. I also want to try the Eclipse. Syrup is one I’m iffy because of its fuschia pink color, which I usually feel is too much for me.

I hope Eshani comes out with more lipsticks soon- more nonshimmer cream/matte shades. I can’t wait to see what’s in store with her eyes/face makeup. But overall, I really like Latte and I would support her new makeup line when I can.

Eshani’s passion for makeup is shown in her YouTube videos. Her reviews are honest. I am very glad she opened her new store Rani Cosmetics. How she put so much thought and details into her line is something not a lot of businesses do. One Year

Last year March 14, 2016 grandma was laid to rest with a funeral mass I couldn’t understand. Family and friends all gathered around with tears in their eyes. But many didn’t know what would come next.

Other than this, life was ordinary. Everyone went about their business after sharing a meal. My brotherhood an invite to a family’s house. He just came from out of town.

Rather than waiting for morning to visit, he went close to 9PM. Dad invited me saying he wanted to visit his brother. I knew very well the real reason. After all, if he wanted to visit his brother, he would have waited until morning. I refused to go telling him I wasn’t invited. I was there when brother told them of his invite earlier. I live here and never get invited. He comes to visit and they invite him, no one else. After couple more tries and still not giving in, I watched them all walk out the door and into the car- dad in passenger side with his portable oxygen machine, brother in back seat, mom in driver side. She drove the RAV4.

As they drove away, I closed the door to what would be the last moments shared with Dad at home. Earphones on, I spent my time at home alone listening to music, drowning out life.

Few minutes later I removed my earphone and heard our home phone. But when I picked it up, the call had ended. Then, my cousin called me on my cell phone telling me the news calmly. Their car didn’t even make it on the highway. Mom had made a wide turn and drove into a pole.

Mom got out of the hospital with a fractured elbow and brother got out with bruises and pain. Dad spent two weeks in the hospital before he passed away, Tuesday March 22, 2016 at 3:29AM. He had a neck fracture due to the accident. However, if the doctors hadn’t waited to give him a correct neck brace, he would have been in rehab. Rather, they made him wait one extra day.

His doctors he usually sees preferred him not to stay in a hospital for too long because he would catch pneumonia quickly. That one extra day of waiting came. The doctors changed his neck brace finally. He was ready to be moved.

So it seemed.

He started saying he wasn’t feeling good. The nurses held back on his transferring to a rehab due to that. That night he developed coughing. At one point he had fainted or something and one nurse panicked calling code red unable to get a pulse. I wasn’t there at the time.

They moved him to an ICU room where’d he’d spend his last week. He had chest pains. I don’t know how his heart managed. Only one side vessel was working for him. And he went through all this. Sometimes heart attacks that weren’t heart attacks occurred.

The last we talked was the Friday before they put him to sleep so a machine can breathe for him and he can relax. Saturday morning after that last talk, he had a heart attack. Mom, brother, and I were home when she got the call.

I watched him lay on the hospital bed breathing to a tube. Sunday they decided to do a cooling/warming process. Cooling went fine. But when the warming process began Monday morning, he slowly deteriorated away. His kidneys were failing. His heart was the last to give up. Tuesday, 3:29AM he took his last breath off the machine.

All I keep thinking, the only thing that gives comfort is that he is no longer suffering. I saw on his computer some videos. He learned how to use camera all by himself two years before he passed. He had some videos on there from two years and previous year and the month before he passed.

That last video sent chills down my body as I watched him sleep on his chair for ten minutes before he woke and turned the camera off.

His first video of him finding out about camera, he called mom over to see. They were amazed they could see themselves. He didn’t want to wake me for I was asleep in bed. He never told me and I wished he did. I don’t know.

I feel like ever since he has passed, him and his memories are fading. I don’t know how to keep his memories alive. I feel alone in this house because he is not here to talk to.

When I was sick, even though I was too old for story time, he’d still tell me a story, which would help me forget about my pain and drift off to sleep. The stories would be bible related. If not, then it would be about a rabbit and it’s tail.

Today marks his one year and looking back most of what happened feels so vague in my mind. I wrote this down maybe to have some sort of recollection.

Prompt: Minimal

Well now, last Monday began first day of spring. This week art has been running through my head. For some reason, my brain is excited for spring. It’s coming up with paint art ideas even on days we don’t have art.

Two days ago we did a butterfly art inspired by a teacher in an older class I worked in last week. She had placed paint on a paper as an example and showed the older class a butterfly. They decided they wanted to draw or cut one out, then paint. So, I took her’s for prek since teacher I work with is always looking for “easy” “quick” art. The kids enjoyed it but theirs did not look like a butterfly. One sort of did. Most looked like bugs or leaf, etc.

Yesterday, I decided to use paint again and this time paint their hand. They loved that! Minimal products for a creative, fun activity the teacher can’t say no to. Well, I’ll be painting hands individually; so, I think there will be some problems of the other kids waiting. To me, that’s no problem at all. Just do a game with them or a coloring page and they’ll stay occupied until their name is called.

Yesterday wasn’t art day. But I got the paint all ready for it. Instead they colored a Papa John’s picture. If their parents turn it in to the one addressed on the page, they’ll get a pizza for 2.99, I think. I thought a free pizzas for the kids who turn it in. But nope! Oh, well.

I’m still thinking of art to do. It’s the easy quick and minimal materials that’s tricky.
